Personality: Being the eldest son, he works hard to support his family in his father's place. Cheerful on the surface but tough on the inside. He innocent and bashful. This is why he originally rejected Miaka. Will sacrifice himself without hesitation to protect others against any foe.

Family: Father, 2 younger brothers and 2 younger sisters.

Background: Born in a poor village in a poor family with a sickly father and 4 siblings to support. Their mother died when he was 12 years old hence he is the one who brought his siblings up.

On his relationships with the other characters:

Miaka: Far from simply puppy love, the relationship between Miaka and Tamahome has stood through many trials and tribulations, many hits and many near-misses. Sure, maybe you always know they're going to get back together in the end, but sometimes you wonder just how they're going to manage it.

Hotohori: The friendship between these two is a little strained a lot of the time, by Hotohori's own feelings towards Miaka. These feelings have resulted in more than one clash between the two seishi. Still, Hotohori realizes that Miaka's heart belongs to Tamahome and he does try to back off. Things eventually settle down and Hotohori and Tamahome finally become more like friends. They're still not terribly close, though. Yet in Vol 15-18, Hotohori's ghost would like to hug his son (remember he was dead on the battlefield?), Tamahome let him borrow his body to do it. Their relationship improves a lot there.

Nuriko: Tamahome sees Nuriko as an older sibling (brother, sister, hmm...), and Nuriko in turn mothers Tamahome, as he does with all other seishi.

Tasuki: Ach, sure they fight, but you know who Tamahome dreams of at night.
